What is the Ronald McDonald Family Room?

In St. Louis there are two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms: one at St. John's Mercy Medical Center and one at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

The Family Rooms are an oasis within the hospital, where families of young patients can spend time together away from the hustle and bustle of hospital corridors, busy waiting rooms, but allows them to stay close to their child. It is a joint venture of the hospital and the local Ronald McDonald House.

The Family Rooms are an extension of the services of The Ronald McDonald House to local, as well as out of town families. They offer families a kitchen, dining area, showers and laundry facilities, and an area for television, reading or conversation.

It is manned totally by volunteers, one of which must be on duty during any time that the Family Room is open. Three hour shifts are available from 9a.m. to 9p.m., and shift sharing opportunities are available for groups and organizations.

Wish list for family rooms

We offer families complimentary snacks, laundry detergent and toiletries, or better put "some of the comforts of home" at the Family Rooms. We depend on donations for these items, and here are the things in greatest need:

Pre-packaged snack foods (chips, cookies, soups, easy mac, breakfast bars, etc.)
Travel sized shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body soap, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, pony tail holders, etc.
Laundry detergent, dryer sheets
Office supplies, pens, pencils, paper clips, stapler, etc.
Magazine subscriptions (People, US Weekly, Home & Garden, Sports Illustrated, etc.)
Adult sizes (men and women) of scrubs
Adult sizes (men and women) of sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts
Adult board games (Cranium, Trivial Pursuit, etc.)
